Cydoniae semen

Pharmacy name: the seeds of quince - Cydoniae semen (formerly: Semen Cydoniae).

Botanical description. A tree to 3 m in height (often in the form of shrubs), separated from the branches and leaves serovoylochno-pubescence. The flowers resemble the flowers of apple, reddish-white, sometimes bigger. The fruits of pear shape. In the wild condition occurs in the Caucasus, Iran, Afghanistan; cultivate almost everywhere.

Active substance: mucus, amygdalin, emulsin, tannin, essential oil.

Application. Mucus acts as a palliative tool in the inflammation, the extract from the seeds, and sometimes it is used as a cough.
